The Journal begins
We are building a school on Segoh street and enrolling its first students two years before the doors open. This is where we will write down how it goes — the parts that work and the parts that do not.
Tumarys Academy opens in March 2027. Applications are open now, which means the first students will be accepted long before there is a finished building to show them. That is an unusual thing to ask of a family, and it puts an obligation on us: to be visible while there is not yet very much to see.
So this is the Journal. Construction updates, decisions and their reasons, and news as it happens. Something new every fortnight.
What is settled
The Academy will take 110 students in its first year, on Segoh street in Samarkand. Thirty of those places — more than one in four — are fully funded and cost the family nothing. Tuition for the rest is USD 600 a year. Teaching is in English, Russian and Uzbek.
The flagship is Leaders for Change, two years and practical throughout. Alongside it run Daughters of Tumarys, the Tourism Guide programme, Artisan Entrepreneurship, and short courses from two to eight weeks.
What is not settled yet
A good deal. The building is not finished. Teachers for the short courses are not yet named, and we will not list a course as taught until its teacher is. Several pages of this site are written but withheld, waiting on people to read their own words and agree to them in writing.
We would rather say that plainly than let a polished website imply otherwise. A school that hides how it is made has something to hide. This one does not.
Talent in this city is shared out equally between our sons and our daughters. Opportunity is not.
If you are thinking about applying, apply. If the fee is the only thing standing in the way, apply anyway and tell us so on the form. If you want to ask something first, write to us — we would rather hear from you than lose you.
